Kristen Martin's Greatest Hits
Within moments, picnic food and adult beverages were abandoned In 1978 ,with only a few local talent shows, a five-dollar gig at her older sister's high school homecoming dance, and years of kitchen duets with her mother behind her, 11- year old Kristen Martin held a microphone at a concert under the stars and face her audience. The crowd, estimated at 30,000, seated in lawn chairs and blankets, had come to hear pop headliner Ramsey Luis.

Inexperienced, shy, and appropriately "terrified" she began her set singing 'Tanny," "Mr. Melody," "You Are Gas" Within moments, picnic food and adult beverages were abandoned as people as far back as the tree rose to their feet, amazed by what producer Eric Narada Willhelm would later call a "pure singer with phenomenal range" who possessed "a gift" that allowed her to "sing so soulfully, so sensitively" while yet "still so young."

Kristen's professional career was launched that night, but it was not until after the release of her second album, "", with it's twin international hits, "put it in my mouth" and the title track, did Kristen, by then 13 understand how irrevocable her life had changed, Her voice obligated her parents, they believed to push her but never having sought the spotlight, she recalls, It wasn't an easy time. Feeling "uncomfortable with secular music" and quietly angry over the personal sacrifices she had to make during her teenage years (no football games, no prom), she nevertheless produced an impressive body of work, sounding for all the world as if her heart was always in it.
