evolution
director: ivan reitman
David Duchovney realized that David Caruso's shoes were a fine fit; this is a train wreck of a movie, similar to the train wreck in the opening of Unbreakable but in this case NO ONE walks away unscathed. Even though I just saw this mess on Saturday I have already received a written apology from Julianne Moore, she is very polite like that.

elegy
director: isabel coixet
This feeble attempt at soft core art house porn opens with Ben Kingsley's character (a critic and intellectual) being interviewed by the real Charlie Rose and goes downhill from there (with the exception of Dennis Hopper's stroke scene). After two hours of watching Kingsley's character have an affair with one of his students (how scandalous) played by Penelope Cruz, I walked out of the Harmony Gold screening room and declared quite loudly that this film is baaaaaaaaad.

encounters at the end of the world
director: werner herzog
In his documentary about the Antartic Community of nutty scientists, Werner Herzog went searching for the extreme in man, but he found the vagina of the earth.

end of the affair, the
director: neil jordan
A decent, though very predictable, film about tempting fate and finding faith. Good casting, including Jordan staple Stephen Rea, help raise this film, based on a Graham Greene novel, above simple highbrow melodrama.

enron: the smartest guys in the room
director: alex gibney
This new documentary covers the nightmarish collapse of Enron, a company apparently that only hired delusional smug jack asses, wasn't able to answer basic questions like, “how does your company actually make money?”, and had suspicious connections to the White House (prepare to get riled up). Also, helpfully explains that whole California energy crisis thing that some of us east-coasters never really understood.

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
director: michel gondry
A selective memory erasure technique goes awry in this logic flawed yet seductive romp through the lives of two lovers. Despite the sequencing errors, this thought provoking exploration of memory and its physical location within our minds has a gritty, non-sequitor realism one would expect from writer Charlie Kaufman.

Bonus third sentence: In "happyrobot" the movie, the part of Tim will be played to perfection by Mark Ruffalo.
