good : riddance :: bad : rubbish

stu   7/4/2008 13:38
It's moments like this that I wish that God existed, so that people like that could spend an eternity in hell.

sylvia   7/4/2008 18:18
I agree Stu. I also hope he lingered for days,in a state of pain and dementia, alternatively shitting himself and telling his wife and children that he never loved them. But, sigh, I also don't believe in God so I will have to wish his family and friends compassion and strength in these tough times.

wow. gorgeous. (sylvia's comment)

stu   7/5/2008 01:59
Compassion and strength for his family, knowing their loved one is now in an eternity of justified pain and agony.

I'm okay with that.

sop   7/5/2008 11:44
Stu you sound just like.........Jesse Helms!

stu   7/5/2008 12:34
Awful people deserve no sympathy.

tyre   7/5/2008 18:54
I don't think Stu sounds like Jesse Helms. To me he's more like Fred Phelps.

stu   7/5/2008 20:57
Hating one person doesn't make you a bigot. Usually, it just means you've gotten to know who they are.

sop   7/5/2008 22:27
Stu. Quit digging. Your in too deep.

stu   7/6/2008 00:51
I'm not the one defending Jesse Helms. If you want to sit with him on the wrong side of history, go ahead.

jason   7/6/2008 02:49
That's what happens to all politicians (namely two, Washington and Helms) who let you know exactly where they stand. They're reviled or beloved.
Now, shouldn't we start wondering why we aren't outraged at the 90 some-odd Senators who just voted a 160 million war funding bill into law?

sop   7/6/2008 08:49
I'm not defending Helms, just his right as an elected official to hold opposing ideas to what I believe. Without someone using his death as a reason to gloat or celebrate. It's tacky and petty. Regardless if it comes from the right or the left. i.e Fred Phelps

n8   7/6/2008 16:03
i'm just so excited that his funeral is on my street. that means more fat cat republicans can see my house is for sale.

do you think i should take down the cannabis yard art?

stu   7/6/2008 16:57
His right to hold opposing ideas should in no way preclude me from being allowed to say that he's a vile piece of shit for having held them, and to have fought so effectively in support of them, or to rejoice in his no longer being around to advance them, and your faux civility in support of his freedom of speech just helps out his cause.

If you don't like it, you don't have to do it, but to try to argue in favor of his freedom of speech while asking me to shut up seems far tackier that badmouthing a bad guy after his death.

sop   7/6/2008 21:22
Now you sound like Keith Olbermann.

:r   7/7/2008 09:32
As a NC boy who lived through the Helms/Harvey Gant election, I sure didn't like Helms.
That said, he's dead. His family, who are probably fine people, are sad that their crazy uncle, dad, granddad, husband, brother Jesse is gone.
Also, Jason wins for best comment.

n8   7/7/2008 19:09
oh, crap. i take it back. they've blocked off our street!!!

even from Hell, Jesse stabs at me.

eve   7/9/2008 04:24
n8, I hope you kept the yard art in full display. Especially if it was shoddily assembled by actual stoners.
