 Nutjobs on the Internet!
Yes, you know they're out there, but it's refreshing to actually stumble across one. A work-related Google search led me to THE HISTORY OF THE CONSPIRACY AGAINST TOBACCO, Carol AS Thompson's violently pro-smoking screed. And I mean violent.

"See how the bloodsucker-control
led media never utter the slightest squeak of protest against anti-smokers rationalizing acts of naked aggression, tyranny and plunder against their innocent fellow citizens!"

If you're looking for a way to help tsunami victims
My friend Annabel lives in Indonesia (she runs a dive shop in Bali) and has been working with an organization called IDEP. IDEP is an Indonesian nonprofit organization that has been doing community development there since 1998. Now they are putting their resources into getting aid to Aceh, the hardest-hit community in Indonesia. On their website you can read daily updates of what they are doing; as of this writing they are loading a vessel with supplies.

This organization is on the ground, now, and has local knowledge of what needs to be done. I would encourage you to visit their website to learn more, and make a donation if you can.

You can also read the blog of a team member.

 The American Covenant
Yes, I'm flogging my own blog again -- I hope the robot will forgive me -- but I've written Yet Another Political Manifesto and I'm spreading the word. Defeated Democrats are all abuzz over George Lakoff's book Don't Think of an Elephant where he talks about re-framing the progressive agenda. I've made my own modest attempt over at Ish -- you can read some background thoughts on it if you're interested. Let me know what you think.

 Single White Male
A friend sent me these pictures, along with the following:

"One night, I experienced a very powerful dream in which Dick Cheney was walking through the forest, reaching out for something. I became obsessed with re-creating this image, and I began to see how Dick Cheney belonged to what Freud called the 'manifest content' of the dream--the surface layer, which only masks the true, latent content. As for what the latent content is here, I couldn't say, but it feels deeply, weirdly personal."

Forget about Trolls, I'm worried about the Crusading Ogre
There are those of us who share a passion (or at least an, um, healthy nostalgia) for D&D. And there are those with the habit of commenting on blogs, message boards, newsgroups, etc. At the intersection of both Venn diagram circles lies the Internet Message Board Wandering Monster Table. But really, how many people really fall into both categories? It must be, like, tens. Or dozens.

Especially when "every time I try and talk to you about these things I can't fully explain how I feel." So what better way to organize your thoughts about the relationship than in a PowerPoint presentation? Includes charts like "Amount of Effort Each of Us Have Put Into the Relationship" and "The Many Different Mood Swings of Laura Boles" Destined to become a classic, right up there with "Yours Is A Very Bad Hotel."

Our friend Andrea has launched New York Snap Exchange as part of psy.geo.conflux. It's a "round-robin, massively multiplayer street photography game" where you go around taking pictures of stuff in NYC and issue challenges to other players. You know, like a scavenger hunt. But digital and all.
