when i was growing up my parents held "family meetings". these would be called at a pre-arranged time (usually after dinner during the week). it mostly meant someone was in trouble and it was easier to address everyone about the issue rather then just yelling at one kid and sending them to their room. sometimes the meetings were about the general attitude being slung around the house. and, because my dad was a fireman, the meetings would also be about fire drills. we would plan out our evacuation routes and practice them. yes- including climbing out our bedroom windows. it was a funny and embarrassing thing to me until i one day read in the paper that my dad was on a call where an entire family was pulled from a house long after the fire burned and was put out.
