Five or six days was enough to restore order. The NYPD sent 500 cops to Jefferson Parish. Other agencies sent officers as well. After seven days, there was nothing left for us to do. As promised by General Clarke, we were sent home after two weeks. A unit from CT came down to relieve us.

By this time, we had power and water restored to the school, so we had moved inside. My squad occupied Mrs. Ruiz's English class. When my Platoon Sergeant told me to put our names on the door so he knew where everyone was sleeping, I figured there was only one way to do it. I traced my hand and put one for each squad member on the door.

Thank you Mrs. Ruiz for the use of your classroom, and sorry we drank your Diet Cokes.
