I think I have a virus that sends a link to everyone on my buddy list. It says "Check this out:" followed by a link. I'm assuming this is a virus on my computer that is causing this and that the link will give my buddies a virus if they open it. Do you know how to get rid of the virus on my computer causing this and/or the virus my buddies will get by opening such a link?????

I registered a MS access database with ODBC
When i ran the script in Command prompt it access the database and print out
the records
But when i ran the script through a web browser it giving me this error
Error connecting to id_pwd Error: [911] [] "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]
Data source name not found and no default driver specified"
id_pwd is my dsn
I try open the dsn
if (!($db = new Win32::ODBC("id_pwd"))){

I try used string without "_" but it still gave me the same error.
I am using window XP pro
I Try using a System DSN (instead of a user DSN). when creating the DSN in
the ODBC control panel. but it still gave me the same error

Hi,
could you please tell me how to programmatically disable one of the two or more currently enabled/functioning video cards on a computer. I manage a number of machines that have two display adapters enabled. Windows gets confused which adapter to send output to when working in a full-size dos window environment (it's a well-known Windows bug). I need a way to disable one of them programmatically during an unattended install. Thank you for your advice!

Every time I turn my computer on or off I get a screen with about 20 vertical stripes going from green to yellow to black. It stays like that for about 45 seconds or so and then it usually turns on, or off. But sometimes it gives me the blue screen of death and does not do anything at all. I also get these errors - something about a kernel error- from time to time which also usually leads to the pernicious blue screen. Besides bludgeoning it to bits with a hammer and getting a new computer, what do you suggest I do about this?

Tim – I need your help! I have this shitty dell computer I bought 3 years ago and it came with Windows Millennium edition. When I got my iPod I upgraded the OS system to Windows XP home edition. I was getting an alert message when I logged in that some device drivers will not work in Windows XP. I went to a support site that told me to delete some files and well I think I got delete happy and tossed something I shouldn’t have. I have not been able to get into my computer since. Every time I turn it on it gets stuck on the blue startup screen. What should I do? I have files that I cannot lose. HELP!

Tim - I believe my apartment is infested with invisible prankster elves. I have a lava lamp. It has blue fluid and white wax or whatever that stuff is. It has been blue with white wax for approximately 10 years. I came back from vacation today and it has clear fluid and orange wax. It was in a sunny window for about a week, but I think elves are a much more plausible theory. What do you think?

Your answer really confirmed my feelings of liking him, but now that i feel something may happen out of this my feelings are getting weird. Why is Tim Tech Time turning into an advice column for the lovelorn? I've got real computer issues...like, on my Dell laptop the touch pad is too sensitive (like people who are putting their hearts on the line). How do I decrease its sensntivity, or, if you prefer, steel myself for rejection?

I've got a power point presentation to make and present- one way or the other it's got to happen. I have to make pictures go into a format. I can make the picture file size real small and the format small too- but when I put them together they're too big to show.
This must happen. Suggestions on how to make this bloodless would be nice.
also- I like your relationship/ love advice- you know me as well as anyone- any ideas on how I should deal with love? Or should I? (the grown up kind- with coffee and bad breath and questionable skin discolorations?)

Sorry to be the 2nd person referring to the best friend question, but what do you do when even though it seems as though they have feelings for you and you may have feelings for them, what happens if your best friend and his girlfriend are "in love" and he's still send mixed signals, am i thinking too much into this?

my laptop has started to make an odd sound. At first, I thought it was slightly orgasmic in nature "wheeaahhungh". I had just installed a spiffy new external dvd burner (it was exciting to me). However, I now realize my poor laptop is making a sound like whining followed by a grunt. Could it be dying from too much peripheral stim, old age or just simply getting too lazy to perform like it used to? I am also thinking/wondering if it is most probably a male computer with issues.

What does it mean if at the bottom of my comp screen where all the little icons are there is an icon for aol and in the corner there is a yellow star with a red dot in the middle, I mean it's obviously a warning of some kind but how do I get rid of it?...Also I really do love the love/computer column you have going on it really gives me some really good advice on both worlds, no joke I reallly appreciate it. thanks:)

Tim -- any tips on how to handle my company's IT guys? First, they absolutely suck at their jobs -- anytime they come to "fix" something, about 5 other problems spring up in its stead. Second, they're fascists. Seriously. It's like the second coming of Mussolini over here. I'd like to have a diplomatic conversation with them about their crappy service, but I'm afraid that if it goes badly they'll cut off my internet access at work. And then I might as well slit my wrists, you know?

Often, when I have been working on my computer for a long while, I feel the need to get up and pee. when I come back, I find my computer has gone to sleep. Should I be insulted, or should I just adjust my preferences, and accept that after a four-year relationship, and a lot of opening and closing of programs, computers get need a snooze. By the way, the computer is a Mac.

I like to work on a lot of different computers, rather than being tied down to one workstation. The library, the internet cafe, at the houses of friends. You have a functioning system, I will use it. I like variety, you might say. Anyhow, I always bring my own disks with me, but I am wondering if I still risk infecting my home system.

okay tim you have talked comps and love but can you answer me this one, how do you ignore nasty untrue rumors made up by people who you thought were some what friends, and even though the rumors are not true they still hurt as ridiculous as they are, i need help

(refering to the rumor question) What if they aren't true friends, just jerk guys that some, you may have been friends with at one point in your life, but not good enough that they know the real you, and since theres nothing to make fun of you for and since they care more about other peoples lives than their own they decide to try to put a solution to what they think is a problem and label you as something that you are far from, I dont get people at all, what do i do in this situation?

It looks like I will be getting a new job here shortly (I hope, though it has nothing to do with that whole spying incident...) and, well, the computer I spend my days with has all my internet favorites stored nicely and neatly. Is there any way to take the addresses of those favorites with me? Would a jump drive help? Should I e-mail them to myself? That seems like a really lame alternative.

My hard disk is fairly large but i want to fit it into a tight drive space, what do u suggest? and Should i Force it in with or without the space's full agreement? I bought a new computer because my old one was very old and I had noticed a loud whining noise. The whine is back and it's not me making that noise. I've changed the surge protector, listened to everything in my study with a stethoscope and can't seem to find the whine. What could it be oh mighty tim? I wondered, it being October and all if it's ghosts?? Should I offer it some cheese or something? It doesn't seem to like bad jokes but I'll try anything once.

I was in the midst of downloading a windows update--a "critical pack" or something in those words--and I got tired, so I stopped it while it was evidentally working in the hard drive. Now, I can't download any updates...the clock ticks FOREVER and nothing happens, no updates. What can I do to unclock the tick and get my updates? Is there a way to restart this update which was midway loaded?

Tim, I know you are busy. But I love asking the right people computer questions. What happens to the individual icons that match the favorites I add to my favorite list in Internet Explorer disappear? Once I go offline and come back, Instead of a cute little butterfly, or a nice swastika, I get a generic blue "e". It's ugly and I don't like ugly.
