honky cracker: May's Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain Brings June Flowers
Yep. It finally looks as though Spring is here. Never mind the fact that it's June 2nd and he should've been here, oh, say a month and a half ago. It's not too warm out and not too cold. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and people are making out all over the place.
Speaking of which: If anybody wants to make out with me, let me know.
With the coming of spring comes the coming of springtime music. Yes, that's a lot of coming. But it's a lot of Spring. I know things have turned the corner when I start listening to the Beach Boys, Belle and Sebastian, and Pavement's Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain -- all fantastic springtime listening. No band sounds more like Spring than Belle and Sebastian (even if it is a twisted and slightly demented Spring.) Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is just tasty indie-pop fun. And the Beach Boys, well, some people probably think of them as more of a Summer sounds than a Spring thing. But hey, Pet Sounds sounds best to me when it's right now.
Although for some reason the Beach Boys make me feel a bit uneasy -- as if someone's about to partake in some sick, perverted joy at my expense. If I ever make a film that requires a horribly disturbing sex scene, I'm going to set it to "Wouldn't It Be Nice". It's just perfect, I think. "The happy times together we've been spending/I wish that every kiss was never ending." So wrong. But so right for the scene,
Okay, I think I just killed any chance of convincing any of you to make out with me.
While I'm on the topic of springtime music -- I saw a band last night. They're called The Stairs , and they're absolutely fantastic. They totally and completely blew me away. You should check them out. Infact, I recommend that you do so right this very second. I hate to compare bands with other bands, but just to give you an idea of what they sound like: Imagine the menage-a-trois love children of Belle and Sebastian, Neil Young, and Olivia Tremor Control and you have The Stairs. Do yourself a favor and buy their album, Miraculous Happens , right this very second. It's only $12, and you deserve a treat.
