i totally got interviewed for an article on blogging and web journals last night! i probably sounded like a horse's ass but what are you going to do? if you don't love me by now, you never will. har har. it will be published sometime in january. yippeee. i believe nate and tim may also be interviewed so, really, we're talking about a star-studded article.
in other news, the holiday season is upon us. it's hard to believe that it's only two weeks until christmas and then 2003!!!
this is the first holiday season where i am truly cynical about gift buying. what took so long, right? all the commercials depress me... families buying a trillion of dollars in crap just to have something to open on christmas day. i was at best buy the other day and the couple in front of me spent $300 on six game boy games, two game boy "magazines" and extra game cube memory (or something like that). in target this woman was buying "quesadilla makers". she had like three of them in her cart. who needs this machine? i've been making quesadillas at home with a plain old skillet for 5 years now. last year i went to the mall after thanksgiving with a friend of mine and there were all these kids zooming around on just purchased 100 dollar scooters...and i was thinking "what will you get for christmas if you're getting this right now?!?!?" boy, am i a grinch.
one thing i think people underestimate as a gift is the gift certificate. i love gift certificates. i wouldn't care if for the rest of my life everyone bought me certificates for bookstores. but i guess that doesn't make it too fun for the giver. this year i went the "gift basket" route because my in-laws are moving to a smaller house next year and they don't need anymore "stuff" and my sister-in-law just moved to a house and doesn't need "stuff"either. so i did movie night baskets with treats from the whole foods store, a blockbuster gc and beer from carolina brewery. it looks nice and i think it's a nice gift. feel free to use that idea if you'd like.
so there you go. my bah humbug rant.
