Nutshell Kingdom: Pep Talk for the Romantically Hesitant
2003

While it may be easy to shrug wistfully and say, "full many a flower born to bloom unseen," isn't it somehow more courageous to respond with "not if I can help it." Isn't that the lesson mortality teaches us? Death is nature's final lesson that failure is inevitable. Who are we to fight against it. To pursue scary things is to actively embrace the possibility of failure and thus prove that you, as a human being, have found the key to the universe. Leave no stone unturned, no metaphor unmixed... go out there and fall in love, take that trip, quit that job, sing in public, yell at that asshole,... mostly make yourself happy by making someone you think is really great happy. They deserve it. And when it all falls apart, smirk at the fact that life's distractions didn't trick you out of life's pleasures.
