Nutshell Kingdom: personality overhaul, or wishful thinking
2003

It's Labor Day night and a fog has come into town on the heels of sudden rainstorms and very hot August days. I'm trying to be more serious since my cable was turned off and I'm back to housework and reading novels. There was an element to all my good humor that's like a joke. And there's always something a little bitter to a joke. Anyways, I wish (right now) that I could be one those modest and unassuming people. I wish I didn't need people to look at me and listen to me all the time. That is just asking for trouble.

As far as other people go, I've come to this conclusion (I wish I'd thought of this during my all night talkfest Saturday/Sunday--so Sarah, if you read this you'll know what I was trying to say and you may scoff at its oversimple anti-wisdom): If you don't like someone, avoid them. If you are indifferent to someone, be pleasant. If you like someone, be kind to them. If you really like someone, be really kind to them. If someone just rocks your world, be really really naked kind to them (hitting them with rolled-up magazines or covering them with rosepetals if necessary).
