Rolling Sand
The sand in Iraq is different from the sand at home. Where the sand at home could be compared to the consistency of sugar, or salt, the sand here is more like flour. As you walk, puffs of smoke are left instead of footprints. When you drive, it's a smokescreen of sand.

I ride on top of the truck in the turret, with half of my body outside the truck. When we roll through any kind of sand, it ends up everywhere. In my mouth, in my ears, all over my face. My face is usually black with dirt by the time I get back to the base.
