Learning to Fall: quite a gentleman.
Today was the first day that Terry was allowed back in school and that was cool 'cause now he's kinda a celebrity and no one will ever stuff him or me in a locker again probably ever. We didn't hang out much since today was Wednesday and I had my special poetry classes with Mrs. Benner and Terry isn't really into any of that and I don't think he was ever gonna' get picked for that kind of class anyhow.

After school Alex and Jillian took me to the store to get some clothes since I'm growing "like a weed" as Momma says, and Momma doesn't do clothing stores in this town anymore. I didn't want to go 'cause I have all the clothes I need like my frog shirt, my wolf shirt, and my Dunkin' Donuts shirt but Momma said that if I went and let Alex and Jillian help me get two pairs of pants and four shirts she'd make us a blueberry buckle for dessert and that made me want to just do it, get it over with, and get back home to the good stuff.

When we pulled up to the house in Alex's crummy Dodge Dart that he called the Dartmobile like it's cool or something and I call the Fartmobile 'cause it stinks, well when we pulled up Terry was coming out of our house.

"I'll see ya' tomorrow, N.B." He said and rode off on his bike, barely keeping from running down Tribble, my dog. That's usually where I yell back 'not if I see you first, sucka' but I didn't 'cause it just seemed weird that he was at our house without me or even Zit Head being there and it didn't look like his momma was there, either.

We all ran inside the house, 'cause even though he's my pal, I was worried he might've gone nutso on Momma and that scared me bad. But when we got in the kitchen, there was Momma making the buckle in that long glass pan she always makes it in wearing her apron and smokin' a cigarette.

"N.B.," I always know that when Momma starts off a sentence with the my initials everything that follows it will be okay, "Terry came over here and apologized to me for him having cussed, because he said he wanted to be able to hang out over here with you and that he wanted me to allow it."

"Awe, isn't that sweet," Zit Head said. "Little Nevin's got a boyfriend." Sometimes she can be a real pain in the balls, I thought, but didn't dare say. Instead I pinched her hard on the thigh as she walked out of the kitchen, twisting a little so it would turn purple then green and she'd remember not to say that kind of thing to me again.

"Terry is quite a gentleman." Momma said it, and I thought for certain that she doesn't know how good a liar Terry is, but I was happy that we could now hang out and play foosball and army guys and go down to the creek and not have to sneak around as pals anymore.
