Learning to Fall: arts and crafts.
The work that we're putting into the shop for my Dad and Gill is so they can open a ceramic studio there. I didn't even know Dad was interested in stuff like that but in college he made all sorts of stuff including all the pots and ashtrays and vases around our house, even the one that has his grandfather's ashes in it that sits on the mantle. I learned that last night when Momma was telling us how good it was that Dad and Gill were going to have a business together again and how nice it would be for Ms. Harriett to have a job.

"What do you mean?" I asked her while she made sweet biscuits for our dessert last night.

"Why, Ms. Harriett is going to work teaching classes there." Momma has a way of making everything sound like one of the children's stories she used to tell us. "That's where your father met Ms. Harriett--in school together."

I didn't know any of that and always thought Ms. Harriett was Momma's friend and not Dad's and now that I was looking at Ms. Harriett in a new way I didn't know what to think about that.
