the only incidences i encountered on my excursions to syracuse, new york and keystone, colorado were at the syracuse airport where i watched the mechanics work on my prop plane (a.k.a, in aviation terminology, a "Dash 8") for about an hour, then we boarded and the pilot started up the plane and then, after realizing the plane was still "broken" ("broken" as in "the second propeller did NOT work"), the pilot had us all get off so they could do some more work. it was not inspiring too much confidence.
right after that, some guys from my plane decided to switch to a flight going to baltimore on another prop plane. as the plane taxied down the runway, i happened to glance away and when i looked up again the plane had stopped and half a dozen firetrucks were surrounding it. a school bus headed out to pick up the passengers and when they came back to the terminal, they said the wing caught fire. the pilot got on the p.a. system and said "uh, folks, we have a little situtation here, you're going to have to exit the plane by the rear doors...there's no time to grab your stuff, now GO GO GO !!"
it was at this point that i went to counter and said "is there any way to get on a JUMBO JET? i'll take it anywhere south of here!".
so i hopped a jet and was rerouted to philly and then on to rdu. yay!
