Brains cannot defeat me when I'm stoned, little darlin'

My second favorite part of the Bible is "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." Witness C.B.'s chronic suffering: everyone gets candy while trick or treating, he gets a rock (over and over). Notice C.B.'s costume as the Hole-y Ghost.

Most important, however, is the concept of the Great Pumpkin, our key to getting into heaven. Where does the G.P. appear? Pumpkin patch. Any old pumpkin patch? Of course not. The G.P. only appears in the most sincere pumpkin patch. Wow! If you can trace sincerity in a vegetable garden, you are going to heaven, my friend!

Of course, it all ends tragically. The pumpkin turns out to be Snoopy (as the WWI flying ace, no less). Linus misjudges the sincerity of his chosen patch. Sally misses out on tricks or treats for love and is crushed. C.B. goes to the party, but ends up having his head used as a model for a Jack o' Lantern. Lucy is ambushed by Snoopy in apple-bobbing bucket. There's no spastic dancing. None at all.

All in all, a dark tale cut by humor (much like Hamlet and The Empire Strikes Back). Importantly, however, is the information that the key to heaven lies in your sincerity. There's hope for these Peanut kids after all.
