Film and Television Rights: Historical Note

In new movies set in the olden days, (and in movies made in the olden days set anytime), when people first meet, one character asks the other, "So, do you have a name?"

Well, what's not usually understood, is the reason this was commonplace when people met in the olden times, is because people often weren't given names. The question, "So, do you have a name?" was a sincere one.

However, in movies, it's difficult for characters to not have names, which is why invariably the person answers "They calls me Pegleg Pete."

Or Jim or Bobby, or whatever.
