I was drowsing through a lecture today on student protest movements that was in French, of course, and was startled awake by these words that kept repeating: le Fek et le Fuck.
I started to giggle uncontrollably when I found out that Le Fek is acutally FECQ (Federation des Cegeps au Quebec) and Le Fuck is actually FEUQ (Federation des Universites au Quebec).
There is this running gag through White Teeth (written by the infuriatingly young and gorgeous Zadie Smith) about KEVIN as an acronym for a Black Muslim organisation "They are aware of their acronym problem," the characters profess.
I tried to make a joke about it, but the guy laughed in that stiff way that meant he was indulging my nonsense. Sometimes it is OK when to laugh at people who don't have a sense of humour, right?
