open windows
Saturday, April 2, 2005

› by katie

hi. My windows are open today. It is 50 degrees and sunny and a good day. I typically prefer clouds to sun, but I'm going with it today. I think I'm going to go on a bike ride. I keep my bike in my bedroom because two years ago my bike got stolen and it was really a pain in the patoot to replace. When you have a good bike, it's irreplaceable. Like a perfect pair of shoes.

Lots of stuff is going on. My husband is the lead candidate for a position in a wonderful small town where we would love to live. I have a fellowship for next year so I am mobile. Houses in this town are, like, $50,000 for 3 bedroom 2 bath updated houses. It's really unbelievable. The town is 3,000 people, a grocery store, a bar, and a river. The school he is teaching at is really horrible--the number of teachers who have been assulted by students is more than I can count on one hand. Keep your fingers crossed, happyroboters, that he gets it.

Here are some of the things I did so far today (in no particular order):

Showed an apartment to a sullen looking girl with a lipring and her boyfriend who also had a lipring (they reminded me of the south park goth kids).

Read Carolyn Hax in the paper (reserving the comics for later).

Emailed a guy online to see if he would trade his 67 mustang for my 98 mustang (I'm sure he won't, but I had to ask).

Picked up a beer bottle from the yard and threw it away (bud).

Looked for houses online (found a house with 40 acres for 139,000).

Watched the middle part of a Hayley Mills movie (don't know which one).

Drank some fake iced coffee (I'm addicted).

Tried to call my parents who didn't answer (I played a really great April fools joke on my Dad... I left a message telling him that if my husband didn't get the job that we were going to move back home for a year or two--I totally got him!!).

Walked outside and looked at the tulips that are starting to come up (approx 6" out of the ground).

Looked at a map of Wisconsin (always a good time).

Put away the blanket & pillow from sleeping on the couch (which I do when I'm home alone).

Read HR (per usual).

That's mostly it. Okay. I'm going to see if my bike has air in the tires now.
