So last month Shumai went on our first real tour. Our jaunt took us to various cities and various motel chains up and down the east coast of this land of ours.
Basically, we came away with the following lessons learned:
1. Do not go to the south in early August.
2. Never eat at a place called "Mom's."
3. Never make your drummer laugh after an all you can eat breakfast buffet.
4. AAA membership is a very good idea.

Anyway...after a previous trip down to DC in Colin from the Smittens' super deluxe conversion van (you know, the kind that old guys drive with seats that fold down into beds and whatnot,) we decided that this, rather than jamming everyone into Erik's Escort wagon, was the way to travel.
So we bought the cheapest one we could find.
This was possibly mistake number one.
The van was christened on Saturday, the first show of the tour in Providence with Snoozer and Walker Kong at the Green Room. (Snoozer is our friend Suzy from Providence and Cara, who now lives in Philadelphia, with whom we are sharing this tour.) Walker Kong are from Minneapolis and are super nice and put on a great show.
Before the show, we sit at the bar and eat burgers next to The Mooney Suzuki who are apparently playing around the corner.
The next day we had a show in Cambridge with the same line up. We loaded up the van and made it as far as the Providence city line when the van died on Rt. 95. We called AAA and they get there super fast, but we then have to drive very slowly back to our house. And the tow truck driver will not stop talking about his stupid truck to us. Apparently they gave him the top of the line tow truck that night and it's like the best thing that's ever happened to this guy. Meanwhile, we have just paid $3000 for a useless pile of metal. But Suzy comes to the rescue and we pile all of our stuff into her car and her boyfriend Michael's car and make it to Cambridge just as Walker Kong are finishing their set and all goes pretty well, considering.
More later...
