You ever get just a fragment of a song stuck in your head? It might not even be five words total but it is lodged in there like the preamble to our fine Constitution. It might not even be especially good but those lyrics are fluffing up the pillows between your ears and they're in for the night. It's been many a fine evening shot to hell by my getting Salt N Pepa's "None of Your Business" stuck in my head. I'm not sure what is especially unappealing about me walking around my apartment crooning, "If I wanna take a guy home with me tonight, IT"S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS," but that's neither here nor there. No, the past few days I've been chewing one turn of phrase by Vic Chesnutt, one of my favorite singers. I believe the line is, "I settled on a hurt as big as Robert Mitchum." I just love that line and I fear I'm doing it no justice here. Anyway I suppose it's better than having "Oops, I Did It Again" stuck in my head.....oh no, here it comes. You know, I'm really not that innocent.
