2001:July:11

Sorry I haven't written in awhile, I have been busy with this job that I have and I've taking a lot of weekend excursions out of Stink Town. But I'm back now and ready to hunker down or step up to the plate, whatever it takes. So last week I took a five day respite from the city, it was sorely needed. On Saturday evening I was at my friend Tony's house in Narragansett and we were sitting on the deck listening to the new REM album, which I had finally broken down and purchased. I'm not sure what I expect from them as a band anymore but as of Saturday I was not quite ready to turn my back on them either. We listened to the first eight tracks and were less than thrilled, I remember thinking one song was "very OK" but that was all the excitement I could muster about it. Tony went inside and shut it off and put on "Life's Rich Pageant", which is a quote from Inspector Clouseau you know, and man did it ever rock. It really put things in perspective. Tony and I decided we are going to buy Michael Stipe a wig because we suspect all his strength was in his hair. Tony asked his wife Eileen what she thought of the album and she said all their stuff sounds the same to her.
