Morning Person Due to a bunch of jobs with early morning start times, I have become a morning person. Yes, I’m now one of THOSE people who are up at 5:30 am without the aid of coffee, going full throttle at 8:30 am, then crashing at 9pm. If I was on the Camino, I would be a racing pilgrim.
When I first get up in the morning, I am not a bundle of energy. I like lounge around, take my time, and eat a piece of toast (with jelly, no butter). Still, I enjoy the early morning. No one else is up except for the ambitious jogger and other morning people. A marine layer hangs in the air and hasn’t burnt off yet. It is blissfully cool and quiet. I can meet the day on my terms and at my own pace instead of being rushed.
I read somewhere on the interweb recently that the worst thing to do first thing in the morning is to check the email. We should be active first thing in the morning, and email makes us reactive. I don’t know if that’s true or not. I prefer reading things on paper in the morning. It feels nicer on the eyes.
Recently, I did a two day race to Catalina and back. On the morning of the second day, I woke up on the boat after an excellent night’s sleep. I got up, sat against the mast and drank a cup of hot tea. I watched two people get off a boat moored nearby, get into a dinghy, and row to shore where they got out and went on a hike at 6am.
Everyone has their own pace in the morning, I guess.
