cat on dog action

i am at the N/R stop at 8th street waiting for the train. across the tracks on the other platform, i see a man coming through the turnstiles with his dog. something is funny about this dog, but i can't tell exactly what yet. as they are walking down towards my end of the station,  i can tell that the dog has something on his back ('maybe he's a seeing eye dog' i think). i can also see that the dog is wearing a hat. an uncle sam / american flag style hat. well, that is cute i think.
but what is that on the dog's back? oh, it's a cat. there is a cat on the dogs back. just sitting there.
not only is there a cat there, but the cat is also wearing a matching hat.
the train comes and they get on.
