jumping into tracks
by agi
It was about six months ago. I had just moved to NJ and was commuting every day to the city.
One morning I was, as usual, transferring from PATH to N, R, W uptown on 34th Street. As I walked down the platform I saw this old Asian man walking towards me. I then saw him jumping into tracks.
I momentarily stopped and looked down. To my amazement he was slowly gathering some pile of papers - probably some important staff.

I stood there speechless - he wasn't in a rush, just taking his time while I knew my train was soon coming. When he picked it up he tried to climb up but couldn't so I gave him my hand.
He grabbed it but I simply couldn't pull him up. I was horrified- I couldn't help him, the train was coming, and on top of everything he was tightly holding my hand. Out of blue I saw some hands reaching towards the poor guy and we finally managed to pull him out. I was relieved.
I will never forget this guy- I told him not to do such a stupid thing again, he looked at me, smiled and walked away like nothing happened.
